The Director

John Henry (Director) was last seen in last year’s production of Tuesdays with Morrie. Tonight he puts on his director’s hat and has the honor of working with this incredible cast. Previously, John has directed Wrong for Each Other, Lu Ann Hampton Laverty Oberlander, and Pvt. Wars (for which he was awarded Outstanding Director from the Ohio Community Theatre Association). Perhaps an even greater honor is to count every one of them as a friend.

The Cast

Larry Farley (Peter Knight) returns to The Village stage after directing last season’s acclaimed Tuesdays with Morrie. He has acted with or directed nearly everyone in the show and is pleased to have the opportunity to work with them again. You might remember seeing Larry last summer in the Blade and on TV as the pirate spokesperson for the Buckeye Cablesystem’s “Treasure Hunt” promotion. We’ve also seen him riding a mean bicycle in a Blade commercial. Larry and his lovely wife Becky just welcomed two new additions to their home … not children, but two alpacas which they adopted.

Nancy Janney (Minna) has been a member of The Village Players since 1972. She is usually found backstage with the props, but has appeared on stage from time to time. Her last VP appearance was eight years ago in The Female Odd Couple. Other shows include The Man Who Came to Dinner, Octet Bridge Club, The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild, and A Streetcar Named Desire. In her non-theatre life, Nancy is very active with the Ladies Shrine of North America, helping to raise funds for the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming and traveling. Nancy is glad to be back on stage at The Village Players after such a long absence.

Jean Mills (Lydia) has performed with The Village Players, the Toledo Repertoire Theatre and other area theatres since 1981. Her roles range from dramas to comedies and musicals. Favorite roles include Daisy Wertham (Driving Miss Daisy), Ethel Thayer (On Golden Pond), Fraulein Schneider (Cabaret), Madame Armfeldt (A Little Night Music), and Miss Furnival (Black Comedy). Most recently, Jean was seen in our September production of Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks as Lily Harrison. Jean is the VP past-president who serves on the Board of Directors and volunteers her time and talents so that audiences have a marvelous experience every time they come for a performance. She thanks you for your continued support!

Sally Malhoit (Fiona) I am delighted to be back at The Village with some of my favortie actors and director John Henry. Favorite roles include those in Glass Menagerie (Amanda), Gin Game (Fonzia), Royal Family (Fannie), Greetings (Emily Gorski), and Painting Chruches (Fanny Sedgwick Church). My thanks to Jack!

Norb Mills (Cogburn) has been active with The Village for 27 years. He has acted, produced or directed over 20 productions. Norb has received 3 acting and 1 directing awards from OCTA (Ohio Community Theatre Association). Recovering from a recent hip replacement, our bionic actor is looking forward to returning to golfing, dancing and traveling. During the summers, he and his wife Jean spend as much time as possible at their cottage in northern Minnesota.

Mary Wagner (Addie) has been active on stage and behind the scenes for the past 12 years. Most recently she assistant-directed and choreographed two holiday productions at Waterville Playhouse. Some of Mary’s favorite roles include Chris Gorman (Rumors), Dollie and Winnie Tate (Annie Get Your Gun), the Wicked Witch of the West (The Wizard of Oz), and Beauty (Masque of Beauty and the Beast). She appeared with The VP as Lu Ann (Lu Ann Hampton Laverty Oberlander) and Mouse and Others (A Year with Frog and Toad). Mary is excited to be working once again with The Village Players.

Clara C. Engel (Kay Kelsey) loves acting and has appeared in several community theatre productions, including The Village Players’ Don’t Dress for Dinner last season. When she’s not on stage, Clara is a journalist for the Toledo City Paper and an independent copywriter. She also enjoys running, tennis, writing and spending time with family and friends. Thanks to her sister for helping her learn the lines, ”ya sure take the bison fries!”

D. Nicholas Hansen (Dick Stanton) has been involved in Toledo theatre for several years. Here at The Village, he last appeared in Wrong For Each Other. He has also been seen in Wally’s Cafe, Lu Ann Hampton Laverty Oberlander, Pvt. Wars, and Greetings, as well as Murder By Misadventure at the Toledo Rep and Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Valentine. Derek has also directed numerous shows around the Toledo area, including The Spitfire Grill at the Toledo Rep, Mrs. Bob Cractchit’s Wild Christmas Binge for the former Harvest Theatre, and Much Ado About About Nothing for The Village Players Summer Stock series. His numerous accomplishments include receiving three Acting awards from the Ohio Community Theater Association and a BA in Theatre from The University of Toledo. Derek is also a member of the Around the Bend Players, Toledo’s only improv comedy troupe, where they perform regularly at the Funny Bone in Maumee. Derek would like to thank Laura, his real life ingenue, for her support.

Charlie Boos (Jordan Dillingham) debuted at The Village in 2001 in Arsenic and Old Lace as Mortimer Brewster. For seven years, he traveled in a band in the U.S. and other countries and worked on a cruise ship. Currently working in the construction business, his hobbies include music, computers and photography. Welcome back, Charlie.
