Julie Zatko (Director/StarCat) In September of 1999, The Village produced Painting Churches. It was Julie's first time directing at this theatre. Since that time, she has come to be a valued director bringing us last year's Over the River and Through the Woods and this season's Social Security. That, in and of itself is a little psycho, back-to-back direction! When not shining in the director's seat, she sheds light on the actors as one of our lighting designers.
Jake Gordy (Asst. Director) Jake has finally dipped his toes into directing after acting, serving as President of the Board of Directors and as an at-large member, light tech, stage manager, scenic artist, etc. All the things that go into making a "Village Player" (aka Jack of all Trades). He'd like to thank Julie for giving him the opportunity and having the faith, Laura for accompanying him through the madness and Tom for having the patience to put up with lonely weekends and the occasional hissy fit.
Ryan Mahaffey (Yo Yo) Ryan was last seen here
in Dames At Sea, however he’s been quite
busy. He’s worked with The Toledo Rep., Oregon Community Theatre and Fremont
Community Theatre. When not acting or directing, Ryan works in retail where he
specializes in visuals and design.
Ondrea Sabo (Dee Dee) This is Ondrea’s first time treading the
boards at The Village Players. By the light of day she is a teacher and an
esthetician. Her hobbies include dance and martial arts. This fall she will be
starting her doctorate! Congratulations, and welcome to The Village.
Alex Read (Nicky) Alex has been here for some
time (3+ years) and he’s been quite powerful, you see, in his hands he hold the
power to make actors invisible. He frequently runs our light board. He’s finally
found a role that spoke to him, and none to soon, we were getting worried. When
not here Alex is a Claims Representative for the Social Security Administration.
He’d like to recognize his pet, Chuck, who apparently has a relative in the
show?!
Tony Schwab (Provoloney) Originally from Cincinnati, Tony has
acted in Grease, 42nd Street, and a student written/directed play.
In 2003 he graduated from BGSU and is now a 2nd grade teacher. He is a
compendium of pop-culture knowledge, attends movies frequently, and enjoys
reading and writing fiction. He also knows how to throw a party! Welcome to The
Village!
Abby Youngs (Chicklet) Abby is among several newcomers to The
Village, but no stranger to the stage. She hails from Cleveland where she had
may parts that included the title role in Annie and Louisa in The
Sound of Music. She enjoys singing jazz, studying and anything outdoors. She
is a 4th year theatre student at UT and has a babysitting business. She would
like to thank her ferret, Guster, who is currently shaved for the summer, as
well as her family and the cast and Crew. "I have fun being me" she says, and after these rehearsals, we can see why! Thanks for
joining us Abby, hope to keep you around!
D. Nicholas Hansen (Kanaka) Derek has been involved in Toledo
theater for several years. Here at The Village he last appeared as Scanlon in
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
He has also been seen in Last Meeting of
the Knights of the White Magnolia and co-directed
Wrong Turn at Lungfish last
November. His numerous accomplishments include receiving 2 Excellence in Acting
awards from OCTA, assistant directing the independent film “In the Company of
Strangers” and directing Much Ado About Nothing
in 2002. Derek graduated with a BA in theater in May from UT and hopes to be
enrolled in law school next fall.
Deanne Miller (Berdine) This is Deanne’s first show at The Village
Players Theatre where the audience sees her work firsthand. You can usually find
her in the ceiling of the theatre as one of our light designers. As she makes
her way out of the dust and cobwebs and into the light, she’d like to thank
Julie for giving her this opportunity. Many thanks and love to Justin for his
support and coaching.
Erin Keaton (Marvel Ann) Erin’s a first-timer on our stage,
however she has some impressive credits that include screen-time in Spiderman
2 and The Company! One of her greatest attributes is that she can
name any Elton John song in one note. Outside of theatre and Elton, her loves
include drawing, reading, making furniture, silent movies, her cat, and her
band. She says that she could never be Marvel Ann because she is allergic to
bananas and she couldn’t ever name a certain aquatic rodent in public.
Jimmy Pickle (Mrs. Forrest) Most Recently Jimmy was seen at the
Croswell Opera House in Escanaba in Da Moonlight. He was most recently on
our stage in Of Mice and Men.
However, for those patrons that keep coming back for more, you may remember him
from our productions of Kiss Me Kate or Lion in Winter, but that
was about 22 years ago. With over
20 year of experience, his credits are extensive, including Jeffery,
The Good Doctor, Play it Again Sam, Hello Dolly and
improvisational theatre in Chicago. Jimmy would like to dedicate this
performance to his late mother. Thanks for coming back, we’re glad to have
you!
Laura Ahrens (Bettina) You may remember Laura from this season’s
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
as Candy Starr, or as Helen in Not Waving.
More than likely you’ve admired her work as a set dresser/painter. She is past
VP of PR for the theatre and a frequent stage manager, producer, sound and light
tech. She’s your average “Village Player” wearing many hats around the theatre.
When not at the theatre she is a Senior Program Analyst for Honeywell. Glad to
have you onstage!
Angela Metcalf (Ciella Summer) “Chicklet and I are kindred
spirits, as I suffer from split personality disorder. My days are spent in 1876
as Miss Clara Keyser, a cook on the Miami and Erie Canal, and nights as Ciella
Summer, beach bum, and the rest of the time, the little that is left, as Angela
Metcalf; artist, historian and teacher.” A Village Player regular backstage and
onstage, she’d like to thanks all those that have helped her learn the craft
over the years.
Brad Riker (B-Rad) Brad was most recently on our stage in
Much Ado About Nothing as Don John. He has
a thing for SummerStock, me thinks. Brad has also been seen in other shows,
including Born Yesterday, Moon Over Buffalo and Rebecca.
Brad’s day job as a Visual Manager for Elder Beerman came in handy while
building the set, his keen eye and artistic abilities were indispensable! Thanks
for being with us Brad!
