For 68 seasons, The Village Players Theatre has connected Toledo through the power of live performance. Our intimate 165-seat venue puts every audience member close to the action, creating an engaging theatrical experience from every seat.

The Mainstage Season: A curated lineup of musicals and straight plays. These are our hallmark, full-scale productions designed to entertain, inspire, and keep our historic doors open.
The Directors Series: A stripped-down, black-box style showcase that gives local directors the creative freedom to stage edgy, passion-driven scripts without heavy sets or fanfare—becoming a fast favorite for a new generation of theatergoers.

Our History: From a Tent to the Chapel
The Village Players was born out of raw community spirit. In the early 1950s, a handful of local residents from the Village of Ottawa Hills formed a theatrical group purely for the joy of entertainment. Our very first shows were performed under a tent in Ottawa Park.
As our community grew, so did our ambition. In the mid-1960s, the group acquired a small, humble church building on Upton Avenue. Through decades of love, sweat, and local renovations, that chapel was lovingly transformed into the vibrant, fully-equipped theater space we inhabit today.

The Village Players believes the magic backstage is just as important as the performance on stage. We are always looking for hands-on volunteers to help us bring our productions to life. Whether you want to try your hand at set construction, painting, lighting, props, or costumes, there is a place for you here. No experience is required—just a willingness to collaborate and create.

Have a Show You'd Like to Submit?
We accept show submissions throughout the year. Every submission is reviewed by our Season Selection Committee, which evaluates and recommends titles for the upcoming season. At the Board of Directors' winter meeting, the committee presents its recommendations. The board then reviews the selected titles and votes to determine the final season lineup.
