Synopsis
THE STORY: In a first-ring suburb just outside a city that might be Detroit, Ben and Mary see sudden signs of life at the deserted house next door and invite their new neighbors Sharon and Kenny over for a barbecue. As the action unfolds we learn that Sharon and Kenny met at rehab, neither is employed, and they don't own a stick of furniture. The quintessential American back-yard party turns quickly turns into something more dangerous—and filled with potential.

Audition Dates:
Saturday November 21th and Sunday November 22nd at The Village.
What to Prepare:
Auditions will be “cold reads,” meaning the director will give you sections of the script to read with other auditioners.

All Roles Available
Ben – An unemployed loan officer/suburbanite struggling with economic anxiety. 30s-50s
Mary – Ben's wife, a paralegal who copes with stress through heavy drinking. 30s-50s
Sharon – A newly arrived, impulsive neighbor and recovering addiction survivor who works at a call center. 20s-40s
Kenny – Sharon's partner/husband, a shifty warehouse worker and recovering addict who moves in next door. 20s-40s
Frank – Kenny's uncle, a mysterious older man who appears later in the play and reveals Kenny's true background. 40s-70s
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will be 2 times a week starting in late Nov/early Dec through Jan, increasing to 3-4 a week in Feb, with rehearsals in the evenings Sunday-Thursday per cast availability. There will be a brief break for the winter holidays.

Moving Day is a heartfelt, comedic play that follows an artist navigating a chaotic turning point in her life. Specializing in paintings, oils, acrylics, watercolors, and occasional sculpting work, the protagonist is given the chance to showcase at a major gallery exhibition, unfortunately the opportunity falls on the exact day her moving trucks arrive. A disastrous mix-up sends her artwork to her new apartment and her furniture to the gallery, setting off a chain of quirky misunderstandings, physical mishaps, and heartfelt moments of identity and reinvention
The Village is thrilled to be partnering with students from Toledo School for the Arts, who will be designing and creating the prop artwork for our main character for this production.

Show dates:
January 29th - February 7th
Thurs-Sat 7 pm, Sun 2 pm
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will typically take place Monday - Wednesday through December (with time off for holidays). And two potential Saturdays to accommodate other Village show schedules. (11/28, and 12/5)
And then Monday -Thursday in January.
What to Prepare:
Auditions will consist of cold reads from the script.
No prepared monologues are needed.
Please sign up for an audition slot. Be prepared to stay for the entire session time. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to your audition slot to complete your paperwork.

No, they are optional, but we welcome them if you have them.

Yes, you will be asked to complete a brief information form at check-in.
